Abuja(Precise Post) – The House of Representatives has issued a public clarification following the discovery of a decomposed body inside a parked vehicle near the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
In a statement signed by the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., made available to Precise Post on Monday, the House emphasized its commitment to transparency and accurate public communication, noting that the Nigeria Police Force remains the lead agency investigating the incident.
According to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the National Assembly Division, the body of an unidentified male—believed to be a labourer working on a nearby construction site—was found in the back seat of a red Peugeot 406 (registration number BWR-577 BF) around 9:00 a.m. The vehicle was parked close to the Annex Building Gate, near the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The deceased was discovered in a sleeping position and was already in an advanced state of decomposition at the time of discovery. The police have since moved the remains to a mortuary and are working to establish the identity of the individual and notify the next of kin.
The House assured the public that it is cooperating fully with security and emergency agencies to support a thorough investigation. “We commend the Nigeria Police Force for its swift response and will continue to monitor developments closely,” the statement read.
The House also extended condolences to the yet-to-be-identified family and promised to keep the public informed as more details emerge.
“This clarification is necessary to prevent speculation and misinformation,” Rep. Rotimi added.
