OSHOGBO (PRECISE POST) – The Osun Youth Initiative for Good Governance (OYIGG) has alleged that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, deliberately shunned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, by travelling abroad at a critical moment for the party.
According to the statement signed by Dr. Adeyemi Akande, Convener of OYIGG, Governor Adeleke, who is seeking re-election in 2026, left Nigeria on Friday to evade participation in what the group described as an “illegal convention,” especially after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered its suspension.
Justice Peter Lifu, ruling on a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising or recognizing any PDP convention that excludes Lamido as a contestant for the position of National Chairman. The court criticized the party for denying Lamido access to nomination forms, stressing that all members must be given equal opportunity to pursue their political aspirations.
In his ruling, Justice Lifu ordered the PDP to halt the convention until Lamido is allowed to obtain forms, campaign, and mobilize support, stating:
“Before any convention is held, the PDP must make nomination forms available to the plaintiff. Therefore, the convention is hereby suspended to allow the plaintiff to campaign and mobilize support.”
The judicial intervention has further deepened tensions within the PDP. Former Senate President Bukola Saraki also urged the party to suspend the convention, warning that proceeding amid litigation could worsen internal rifts.
OYIGG further alleged that Adeleke, reportedly searching for alternative political platforms after being “rejected” by APC leaders in Osun, departed the country around 4:15 p.m. on Friday to an undisclosed location.
