Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has successfully brokered a peace deal between two top Kano APC leaders, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi.

The reconciliation meeting, held in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday, lasted for about two hours and was aimed at resolving the growing political disagreement between the two influential lawmakers from Kano North.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf appealed to both Barau and Bichi and their supporters to sheathe their swords and put aside all grievances in the interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Henceforth, I do not expect any of your supporters to come out and abuse one another. We must put a stop to this unnecessary distractions,” Governor Yusuf warned.

He urged the two leaders to work together for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kano State Government and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

The governor noted that while political disagreements are normal in a democracy, they should not be allowed to destroy the unity, stability and progress of the party.

He further cautioned supporters of both camps to desist from inflammatory statements, character assassination and actions capable of worsening divisions within the party.

“The APC remains one family, and all stakeholders have a responsibility to ensure that internal crises are resolved through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect,” Yusuf said.

The statement added that the reconciliation move received the full endorsement of President Bola Tinubu. Governor Yusuf assured the President, the APC National Chairman and other critical stakeholders that the Kano APC is now more united and ready to win all elective positions in the state in 2027.

“Gov. Abba K. Yusuf further assured the President and National Leader of the party, the National Chairman, the State Chairman and all critical stakeholders that the APC is set to win all elective positions in Kano come 2027 by God’s Grace,” the statement said.

In their separate remarks, Senator Barau and Hon. Bichi thanked Governor Yusuf for his intervention and pledged to maintain peace. They also cautioned their supporters against any act capable of re-igniting the feud.

The rift between Barau and Bichi had generated serious tension within the Kano APC, especially in Kano North, as both men hold strategic positions in the National Assembly and command large followership.

This is not the first time Governor Yusuf is intervening in APC crises. In May, he reconciled Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila and Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum over a disagreement in Kano South. He also previously mediated between Barau and former Minister of State for Housing, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, who later stepped down from the Kano North senatorial race for Barau.
