ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – A former spokesperson of the ruling party, Bolaji Abdullahi, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the appointment of a Major General as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, describing the title as unnecessary and ideologically misplaced in the Nigerian context.
Reacting to the development on Monday via his X handle, Abdullahi argued that the concept of “homeland security” is historically and politically rooted in countries such as the United States, Germany, Israel and Palestine, where it carries deep ideological and security significance.
According to him, the term has little relevance in Nigeria and does not reflect the nation’s existing security architecture.
“President Tinubu has just appointed a Major General as ‘Special Adviser on Homeland Security.’ The term ‘homeland’ is ideological and historically rooted. It makes sense in contexts like the United States, Germany, Israel, or Palestine. In Nigeria, it is largely meaningless,” he stated.
Abdullahi further suggested that the creation of the new office could signal a lack of confidence in the current National Security Adviser.
“If the President no longer has confidence in his National Security Adviser, he should simply replace him, not create a new office with a copycat title,” he added.
Precide Post recalls that the remarks have since sparked conversations among political observers and security analysts over the expanding structure of security appointments within the Tinubu administration.
