ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The rehabilitation of the Mankessim–Ajumako–Agona Swedru Road is making steady progress, with project officials reporting that work has reached 15 percent completion since construction commenced in January 2026.
The major road infrastructure project, which is expected to be completed by January 2028, is aimed at improving transportation connectivity and boosting socio-economic activities across Ghana’s Central Region.
According to project updates released on the X handle of Ministry of Roads and Rehabilitation Ghana, the contractor has completed key preliminary works, including site clearance, demolition, earthworks, and the construction of drainage structures. A total of 22 culverts of various sizes have so far been completed as part of efforts to improve water flow and enhance the durability of the road.
The scope of the project includes extensive earthworks, pavement construction, asphaltic concrete surfacing, installation of road furniture and streetlights, as well as the construction of drainage systems and three hydraulic bridges at Barfikrom and Ochiso.
Authorities say the project will serve as a critical transportation link between the N4 Highway and the Coastal (N1) and Central Corridors (N6 and N8), significantly improving mobility within the region.
When completed, the rehabilitated road is expected to facilitate the efficient movement of people, goods and services across several districts, including Agona, Gomoa, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Mfantsiman, and Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa.
The project is also projected to stimulate economic growth, strengthen inter-regional integration, and enhance access to markets, social services and business opportunities for residents of the Central Region and beyond.
Stakeholders believe the road upgrade will play a vital role in accelerating socio-economic development while improving transportation safety and connectivity across the country.
