By Chris Udochukwu In a bid to curb oil theft and illegal refining of crude oil in the Niger Delta area, a presidential delegation inspected government assets in some states within the oil-rich area on Saturday. The delegation was led by Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA) to President Bola Tinubu. On the delegation with the NSA were the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa; and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja. Others include Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; Minister of State (Oil), Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri; and Minister of State (Gas), Petroleum Resources, Ekperipe Ekpo. Also, senior management team members of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and other top security personnel made the delegation. The delegation first visited Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in Port Harcourt, the state capital, where crude oil theft and other matters around the operation of the Port Harcourt Refinery were discussed. By Chris Udochukwu Nigerian Army has said that the troops of 5 Battalion operating under 16 Brigade, in a raid operation on Sunday 25 June 2023 at Azuzuama Community in Ijaw South Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, captured an armoury located in a Camp from where suspected unrepentant militants and illegal oil bunkerers carry out their nefarious activities. The Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu who disclosed this in a statement on Monday hinted that during the operation, the highly motivated troops subdued the suspected militants with superior firepower, compelling them to abandon their camp in disarray. He further stated that the well-conducted raid operation led to the recovery of 5 AK 47 Rifles, 2 Rocket Propelled Grenade Bombs, 4 Rocket Grenade Bomb Chargers, seven 7.62mm Special ammunition, 14 AK 47 Rifle Magazines and one pumping machine. Precise Post recalls that the former Niger Delta militant and agitator, Asari Dokubo on Friday spilled beans on activities of the Nigeria Military and Navy, saying they are 99 per cent responsible for crude oil theft in the region. Dokubo made the claims when he visited President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Friday. Oil Theft: Navy Takes Delivery Of 4 Ballistic Gunboats For Anti-bunkering Operations

By Agency Report Port Harcourt – The Nigerian Navy, on Monday, took delivery of four ballistics gunboats to boost its fight against oil theft and sea robbery which has been commonplace in the Niger Delta. The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Leo Irabor, said at the induction of the gunboats that the four armoured gunboats were built by the Naval Shipyard Limited (NSL), Port Harcourt. Busted! How Nigeria Lost N15tr To Crude Oil Theft in Four Years -Report Reveals

By Shola O’Neil Abuja (Precise Post) – An estimated N15trillion is said to have been lost to illegal bunkering rings and other crude oil thieves in the Niger Delta and other parts of the country between 2015 and 2018, a report by the New Nigeria Foundation (NNF) has revealed. The figure, which translates to about $41billion (exchange rate N360/$1), is 43 per cent of the nation’s oil earning for the period and places Nigeria as the worst country in terms of crude oil theft globally, it added. The report titled: ‘Unboxing crude oil theft in Nigeria’, estimated that the fund lost to crude oil theft during the four-year period could have helped bridged 28.7 per cent of Nigeria’s budget deficit for the period under review.
