ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Report released by the UNDP on its official X account has it that around the globe, innovators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders are pioneering new ways to rethink the production, use, and disposal of plastics.
Their initiatives are doing more than just curbing plastic pollution, they’re creating jobs, improving public health, and empowering marginalized communities.
Despite their potential, many of these efforts remain underutilized due to limited regulatory support, lack of visibility, and insufficient funding for scaling up.
A new catalogue released under the Japan-supported Global Plastics Innovation Programme shines a spotlight on ten promising, locally driven solutions. These initiatives span a wide spectrum of approaches, including reuse and refill models, alternative materials, data-driven insights, and grassroots cleanup and awareness campaigns.
The report underscores that with the right policy backing and support mechanisms, these innovations could become critical tools in the global effort to combat plastic pollution and foster sustainable development.
