ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has announced that plans are at an advanced stage to commence direct cargo flights between Enugu and Guangzhou, China, by December 2026, in a move aimed at boosting international trade and positioning the state as a leading aviation and logistics hub in Nigeria.
Mbah disclosed this on Monday through his X handle, stating that what began as a bold vision to transform Enugu into a premier aviation and logistics centre is gradually becoming a reality.
According to the governor, the proposed direct cargo route is being pursued in collaboration with the Federal Government and other strategic partners to unlock fresh economic opportunities for businesses across the Southeast region.
He noted that the air cargo link with Guangzhou, one of China’s major commercial cities, would ease logistics challenges, facilitate faster movement of goods, and strengthen the Southeast’s participation in global trade.
“Working closely with the Federal Government and our partners, we are advancing plans to commence direct cargo flights between Enugu and Guangzhou, China, by December,” Mbah stated.
The governor explained that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to drive economic growth through investments in critical infrastructure and transport connectivity.
Mbah highlighted recent milestones, including the launch of Enugu Air and ongoing efforts to transform the Akanu Ibiam International Airport into a modern cargo and logistics hub capable of serving both domestic and international markets.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building infrastructure that stimulates enterprise, attracts investors, creates employment opportunities, and accelerates economic development in the state.
The governor expressed optimism that the planned cargo operations would further enhance Enugu’s status as a gateway for commerce and industry in the Southeast, declaring that the state’s vision for the future is rapidly taking shape.
“Tomorrow is here,” Mbah said, underscoring his confidence in the transformative impact of the ongoing projects.
