ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Federal workers across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are voicing concerns over significant reductions in their January salaries, with many reporting unexpected pay cuts and no clear explanation from authorities.
In addition to the salary reductions, employees are also upset by the absence of the usual annual salary increment, which is typically implemented every January. One worker expressed their frustration, stating, “We were expecting our usual increment, but this time, it was nowhere to be found. It’s demoralizing.”
Many government employees are also speaking out about the delay in promotions that had been previously approved. Some workers, waiting years for career advancement, feel overlooked and undervalued. A civil servant from a federal agency shared, “Many of us have been due for promotion, yet nothing has been done. It feels like our efforts are being ignored.”
Further compounding the discontent is the slow and inconsistent rollout of the new minimum wage, which was expected to provide financial relief for workers. Judiciary staff, in particular, have been vocal about the delayed implementation of the 25/35% salary increment that was promised to them. Despite repeated assurances, many are still waiting for the adjustments to be reflected in their paychecks.
A judiciary employee expressed their frustration, saying, “We’ve been hearing about this increment for so long, but nothing has changed. How much longer do we have to wait?”
With widespread dissatisfaction growing, federal workers are urging the government to act quickly. They are calling on authorities to fulfill their financial commitments, implement the long-awaited promotions, and ensure that promised wage increases are enacted without further delay.
