A political support group backing former Kano State governor, Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has proposed a joint presidential ticket pairing him with former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, Kwankwaso Support Group 2027, made the call in Kano on Friday, saying the proposed alliance could offer Nigerians a fresh political direction and address the country’s pressing socio-economic challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its leader, Abba Gwale, said the proposal was driven by widespread public desire for improved governance, economic stability, and national unity.
“As loyal supporters of Senator Kwankwaso, we believe it is important to appeal to Nigerians to support an Obi–Kwankwaso ticket. This partnership represents a strong opportunity to reposition the country and respond to the concerns of citizens,” Gwale said.
He noted that the proposed alliance would combine Obi’s strong support base in the South with Kwankwaso’s influence in the North, creating what he described as a broad national coalition capable of reshaping the political landscape.
“This partnership brings together two strong political forces that could significantly influence the outcome of the 2027 elections. Their combined reach offers a credible platform for national integration and reform,” he added.
Gwale said the proposed ticket is banking on growing public demand for better governance, security, and economic opportunities, stressing that their message of reform and accountability is gaining traction across different parts of the country.
“As 2027 approaches, attention is shifting towards alliances that can reflect the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians. The Obi–Kwankwaso partnership is emerging as one of such platforms,” he said.
Position on APC Talks
Commenting on reports suggesting that Kwankwaso was making certain demands as part of potential political negotiations, Gwale dismissed the claims, describing them as speculative.
“If there are such reports, they should be seen as exaggerated. Senator Kwankwaso remains focused on the broader interests of his supporters and the nation at large,” he stated.
According to him, Kwankwaso’s political movement cuts across social, regional, and economic divides, particularly among grassroots supporters nationwide.
“His supporters are everyday Nigerians who desire better living conditions, inclusive development, and responsive leadership,” Gwale added.
