Tonto Dikeh, the popular Nigerian actress and politician, has talked about her failed music career. She also said losing her mother at an early age made her mature faster than her peer group. The 35-year-old about her childhood in a chat with Chude Jideonwo, the media personality. Dikeh said she became an “adult as a child” because both she and her siblings “had to level up to people who had mothers”. “Collectively, I just think it’s from everything I’ve been through. Also losing my mother at a very early age. Everybody in my home became a voice. Kathy Hochul has made history after becoming the first woman to be elected as New York Governor.  The Democrat 64-year-old retains the office she assumed in August 2021 when her predecessor, Andrew Cuomo resigned.  Hochul defeated Republican congressman Lee Zeldin, an ally of ex-President Donald Trump. “I’m not here to make history, I’m here to make a difference”, Hochul told supporters after her triumph.  “I may be New York’s first woman governor, but I know I won’t be the last”, she tweeted on Wednesday.  Hochul won the Democratic primary in June, defeating U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi of Long Island and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.  In May 2011, Hochul won a special election for New York’s 26th congressional district after the resignation of Chris Lee.  The victory then made her the first Democrat to represent the district in 40 years.

A woman who tested positive for HIV made a shocking revelation after she called into a radio program to confess her evil deeds. She disclosed that for the past six-months, she has been mixing her blood with Zobo and sells it to get people infected. In a video making the rounds on social media, the anchors of the radio program asked their listeners, mostly traders, to call in to confess something bad they did that no one knows about and regret it. Nigeria Records 1,601 Yellow Fever Cases

1,601 suspected cases of yellow fever have been reported from 463 local government areas in 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. The cases were reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, from January 1, 2022, to September 30, 2022. According to a situation report obtained by Punch, on Wednesday, a total of 15 deaths were recorded from suspected cases in 10 of the states. Yellow fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes. The ‘yellow’ in the name refers to jaundice that affects some patients. Symptoms of yellow fever include fever, headache, jaundice, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting and fatigue. A small proportion of patients, who contract the virus, develop severe symptoms and approximately half of them die within seven and 10 days. NGO Donates 86 Milling Machines To Vulnerable Women In Adamawa

By Auwalu Birnin Kudu Yola, – An Adamawa based NGO, Goggi Zumunchi Development Initiative (GZDI), has donated milling machines to 86 women, as part of its economic empowerment initiative. Hajiya Aisha Yakubu, the Executive Director of GZDI, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Yola on Thursday. Yakubu said the group’s mission was to give succour to vulnerable members of the society, including the Internally Displaced Persons IDPs. “We assist the IDPs who are mainly affected by the Boko Haram insurgency,” she said. Yakubu disclosed that the initiative, was with support from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Herder Jailed 5 Years For Stealing 61 Cows

By Adebisi Fatima SogbadeIbadan, – An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan on Thursday sentenced a herderr, Abubakar Sidi, 30, to five years imprisonment for stealing 61 cows. The convict, however, pleaded guilty to theft. Delivering judgment,  the Senior Magistrate, Mrs Munirat Giwa-Babalola held Sidi guilty as charged. Babalola said, “the court will be lenient with him, especially as he asked the court to have mercy on him”. The magistrate did not give the convict an option of fine. Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Olufemi Omilana said Sidi between 2020 and October 2022, stole 61 cows at Igbeti town worth N30 million property of Alhaji Abdullahi Sidi. The police said the convict was arrested at about 4p.m in Kara market, Igbeti, when he took seven cows to sale. Omilana said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 390 (9) of the Laws of Oyo State 2000. (NAN)

Moscow, – The Kremlin in Moscow, has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin, would not attend next week’s G20 Summit in Bali. However, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, would travel for the meeting of the 20 major industrialised nations on the Indonesian island. Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov disclosed this to the Russian state news agency TASS, on Thursday.
