By Victor AdeotiOsogbo, – Sen. Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was on Sunday sworn in as the sixth Executive Governor of Osun, along with his Deputy, Kola Adewusi. Adeleke, decked in a white attire with green and white cap, was administered with Oath and Allegiance of Office by the state Chief Judge, Justice Adepele Ojo, at exactly 11.47 a.m at a colourful ceremony held at Osogbo City Stadium. His Deputy, Adewusi, was earlier administered with Oath and Allegiance of Office by the Chief Judge at 11.36 a.m. Addressing the people of Osun, Adeleke announced the immediate freezing of all the state government accounts in the banks and other financial institutions. He also directed an immediate return to the status quo of all fresh appointments, placements and other major decisions taken by the immediate past administration with effect from July 17. Adeleke also announced that there would be establishment of a panel to carry out an inventory and recovery of all the government assets. SMEDAN Begins Matching Fund Programme For Agro-Based SMEs

By Ikenna Uwadileke Abuja, – The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), in partnership with Sterling Bank Plc, has started a matching fund programme for agro-based Nano, Micro and Small Enterprises (NMSEs). This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the Head of Corporate Affairs Division of the agency, Mr Ibrahim Mohammed. Mohammed quoted the Director-General of SMEDAN, Olawale Fasanya as saying that the intervention was to deliver credit to the sub-sector in six selected states of Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti and Osun. According to Fasanya, the programme is a promotional mechanism to enhance enterprise output, competitiveness as well as job creation and the disbursing entity, under the programme shall be Sterling Bank Plc. He identified Nano, SMEs operating in the real sector with value-added agricultural products as the target beneficiaries for the programme. NIPCO Set To Build Gas Pipeline In Lekki Free Trade Zone

By Yunus Yusuf Lagos, – NIPCO Gas Ltd. has signed an agreement with the NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd. (NGML) and Lekki Free Zone Development Company (LFZDC) to build a gas pipeline. The gas pipeline, which is expected to be completed in the next six months, is planned to supply gas to the Lekki Free Zone and feed a 24 Mega Watts (MW) power plant in the axis. Speaking at the signing of the MOU in Lagos on Sunday, the Managing Director, NIPCO Gas, Mr Nagendra Verma, said the pact would aid smooth distribution of gas to Lekki area of Lagos State. “Our intention is to supply gas, which is economical, cheaper and environmentally friendly. “It will also enhance efficiency of equipment and ultimately boost the economy of this country. “We are developing gas infrastructure to meet the power requirement of the industries,” said Verma. Cooperative Societies: Minister Urges Artisanal Miners To Register, Access Up To N100m 

By Constance Athekame Abuja, – The Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, has urged artisanal miners to expand their frontiers by registering with Cooperative Societies.This according to the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr Olamilekun Adegbite will enable them to access as much as N100 million loan at only five per cent interest rate.Adegbite said this when he appeared on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja.He said the low interest rate fixed by government  for artisanal miners was part of its effort to encourage diversification of the economy.Adegbite, who said the loan repayment could span for a period of 20 years, urged them to form cooperatives to make access easier.He said the miners could form cooperatives of 10 people when approaching the ministry for the loan  to make the process seamless.According to him, once the miners come together to form cooperatives, the ministry will give them the appropriate equipment and licence.He said that once the miners were registered, they would benefit from all  incentives of the government like training and free tools.“I was told we have …

Gov. Adeleke Freezes Osun Bank Accounts Immediately After Swearing-In

He immediately ordered the freezing of the state’s accounts in banks and in other financial institutions. Chief Judge of Osun, Justice Adepele Ojo, administered the oath of office on Adeleke at the Osogbo City Stadium. Earlier, Justice Ojo administered the oath of allegiance on Adeleke’s deputy, Mr Kola Adewusi. Adeleke succeeded former Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He directed an immediate return to status quo ante of all appointments, placements and other major decisions taken by Oyetola’s administration from July 17, the day after the governorship election in the state.
